Vasantha participates in and leads opportunity assessments, product searches and strategic projects. She is a team leader for projects focused on T2DM, Obesity and metabolic diseases, and she contributes regularly to projects related to cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, oncology and autoimmune/inflammatory diseases. Vasantha has also consulted in several lesser-developed categories such as tinnitus, celiac disease, female sexual disorders, cachexia, sarcopenia and congenital CMV.
Prior to joining Defined Health in 2007, Vasantha worked as a Scientist in cell and assay biology with Aurigene Discovery Technologies, a drug discovery and research firm. During this period, she designed assays to screen and optimize lead compounds against kinase, nuclear hormone receptor and GPCR targets and successfully managed a lead generation project from inception to lead compound generation.
Vasantha received a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from University of Leicester at Leicester, UK and Anna University, Chennai, India where her studies focused on the molecular pathways activated in intestinal epithelial cells infected with Enteropathogenic E.coli that causes inflammation, diarrhea and intestinal cell death. She is a published author and recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Split-site Doctoral Scholarship awarded by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK and the Junior Research Fellowship awarded by Lady Tata Memorial Trust, India. A person with wide ranging interests, Vasantha has previously worked as a newscaster for a popular national television channel in India.
